I usually love October, but for some reason this year is was a Month from Hell! I was pretty much sick the entire time and had to work through most weekends on top of it. Needless to say, no real cooking took place in our apartment for a while!
Finally, work is slowing down and I’m feeling better, so my kitchen is going to get a workout this weekend! In the meantime, I thought I’d catch you up on a few of the things that I did actually make (but failed to document) since I’ve been away!
-At the beginning of the month, we attended a Oktoberfest party at a good friend’s house. I made a couple of dishes for the festivities including these two: Sauerkraut Salad and German Potato Salad. Both recipes were a hit, but turned out a little too sweet for my taste (must be a German thing?). If I were to do it all over again, I would have omitted 99% of the sugar in both recipes.
-For Halloween, I made Jenna’s Butternut Squash Gnocchi. The husband was a huge fan of this one!
-Since the weather has turned cold cold cold here, all I want to eat is SOUP! I’ve made a few this month including these winners: Brittany’s Kale and White Bean Soup and Gina’s Sweet Potato Black Bean Chili. Both recipes are delightful and I will definitely be making them again soon.
-The husband spoiled me with pumpkins (instead of flowers?) and breakfast crepes a few of times. He obviously knows how to win my heart : )
-And now that I’m back on my feet, here’s (part of!) my Fall cooking wish list:
Buttery Cloverleaf Rolls
Butternut Squash Risotto
Carmelized Onion Black Bean Sauce
Smoky Shrimp and Chicken Gumbo
…I think I’m sensing a theme of soup here!
Anything you guys would like to see cooked this November? I’m taking requests!

So glad you’re feeling better and back to cooking.
I was starting to wonder what happened to you….
